Indoor VS Outdoor Food (Cool Trick)

Published 22 days ago • 2 min read

What a weird thing to say

What the hell is 'indoor food' and 'outdoor food' Reader?

Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you to start eating grass to drop fat (but now you mention it... 🤔)

Nope

But there is a simple way to split your diet into two to help you lose weight

First, what is the difference between indoor and outdoor food?

Indoor Food 🏡

  • Anything you eat in the house

  • This is usually breakfast, lunch and most evening meals

  • Indoor food isn't that exciting

  • Most people also don't have a huge amount of variety in their indoor food

  • Indoor food is really easy to control

  • What you eat indoors is mostly dictated by your weekly/monthly grocery shopping

Outdoor Food 🚕🚅🏭

  • Anything you eat outside the house

  • This could be in the office, on the train, in the car

  • Outdoor food is generally smaller meals or snacks

  • Outdoor food might also be a treat meal out at a restaurant

  • It could also be something you grab at the petrol station

  • Outdoor food is harder to control

So what is my 'cool trick' (it's not that cool)?

Focus on your indoor food

It's that simple, but it works really well

Why?

Well for the vast majority of us, indoor food makes up 75-90% of what we eat

So if we can control 75-90% of our food intake with a few simple habits, we're winning the weight loss battle

Here are my ten commandments for indoor food:

  1. Always make sure your fridge/freezer/cupboards are stocked with filling, high fibre, high protein foods 🍗

2. Shop once a month (ideally) and buy everything you need in bulk, freezing most of the fresh meat 🥶

3. Mainly buy things you can make quick, simple meals from (meat, rice, potatoes, noodles, bread, pasta, vegetables) 🥔 🥩

4. Have a few spices and sauces you can use to make your meals taste better (hot sauce, ketchup, sour cream, tomato-based pasta sauce) 🥫

5. Make sure your snacks are or in fibre OR protein (e.g. apples, yoghurts, protein bars, fruit+ nut mixes, rice cakes, beef jerky) 🍏

6. If you have a sweet tooth, BUY 👏 DIET 👏 SOFT DRINKS 👏 (Diet Coke, Sprite Zero, etc) 🥤

7. Despite what everyone has told you, carbs are fine, but try to limit fatty foods 🍞 ✅

8. Don't buy cooking oil or Peanut Butter. Just don't 🥜

9. Get a few microwave meals for when you're really pressed for time 🧆

10. Avoid drinking alcohol at home 🍺 ❌

If you stick to these commandments religously (excuse the pun) you'll be optimising 75-90% of your diet

That means you only really need to worry about the remaining 10-25%

You can treat your outdoor food separately, i.e.

  • More flexibility around food choices

  • More vareity

  • Allow yourself some fatty foods

  • Allow yourself some alcohol

Outdoor food essentially becomes 'fun food'

For a lot of people, simply thinking about your diet this way will be enough to help you START losing weight

If are already fairly lean and want to lower your body fat even more, you'll likely need more rules around outdoor food too

But you can definitely still eat out

I know, I get it

You want to eat whatever you want, whenever you want

Don't we all Reader

But if you want to make changes, some sacrifice is needed.

And this is a really easy way to start.
